Kimberly-Clark and WWF Work Together to Conserve the World's Forests

Washington, DC and Dallas, TX  – Kimberly-Clark Corporation, one of the world’s largest producers of tissue products, has joined WWF’s Global Forest & Trade Network and committed to increase its use of wood fiber from sustainable sources to help protect the world’s forests. Protecting the world’s forests is critical to addressing climate change as deforestation accounts for nearly 20 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

HP Joins WWF’s Global Forest and Trade Network

WASHINGTON, DC, and PALO ALTO, Calif. – HP today announced it has joined the Global Forest & Trade Network in North America (GFTN-NA), a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) initiative linking more than 300 companies globally that share a commitment to responsible forestry. By becoming a member of the GFTN, HP has committed to progressively increase the amount of responsibly harvested fiber used in its paper products and sold globally.

Unsustainable Logging Threatens Great Ape Populations

All species of great apes are (critically) endangered, and their continued existence depends on the conservation of the tropical rainforests. Recognizing that the majority of great apes live outside of formal protected areas, where logging is the most common land use, a new WWF report 'Great Apes and Logging' compares the consequences of different types of logging for a variety of species in general, and for great apes in particular.

WWF /GFTN Iberia: First Business Trip in Portugal Showed Importance of Cork Certification

Lisbon, Portugal – The GFTN-Iberia first Business Trip, dedicated to FSC cork and organized by WWF in Portugal, ended last week in Oporto after two days of visits: a first day devoted to the sector of cork production, where it was possible to see in loco the harvesting of FSC cork in Herdade dos Fidalgos (2204 ha FSC certified), Coruche region; and a second day devoted to the cork industry, with visits to the GFTN-Iberia members’ factories - Cork Supply (natural cork stoppers) and Amorim Revestimentos (cork flooring), both located in Saint Maria da Feira (Oporto).

Responsible Forestry Prevails in the Congo Basin

YAOUNDÉ, CAMEROON — Forest conservation in the Congo Basin passed a significant milestone in sustainable forestry management through the recent achievement of over 2 million hectares (ha) of forests managed by GFTN-Central Africa Participants receiving certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The certification consisted of forests managed by SEFAC, Transformation Reef Cameroon, PALLISCO and WIJMA in Cameroon and Industrie Forestière d’Ouesso (IFO) in the Republic of Congo.
