GFTN-Vietnam Welcomes Adis Pte Ltd.
The Global Forest & Trade Network in Vietnam (GFTN-Vietnam) officially admitted the 11th participant—Adis Pte Ltd., a furniture retailer headquartered in Singapore and operating in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Through joining GFTN-Vietnam, Adis formalizes its commitment to responsible sourcing and promoting responsible forest management.
WWF Timber Group Raises Sourcing Standards
Members of WWF-UK’s timber purchasing network have cut the volume of wood they buy from high-risk sources considerably over the past four years. But the group has had problems with its reporting process. Organisations participating in WWF-UK’s Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN-UK) bought 36% more wood from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified sources last year than in 2007.1 They also cut the volume from unknown and potentially unsustainable sources by about 68%. However, problems with the reporting process mean detailed results are unavailable.
Joining forces to strengthen responsible forestry in Lao PDR
Vientiane, Lao PDR - WWF’s Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN) and The Forest Trust (TFT) today launched the Lao Forest and Trade Platform, a collaborative partnership in Lao PDR to strengthen responsible forestry practices and links to international markets. The Platform will help Lao PDR emerge as a leader in supplying responsible forest products to the global marketplace, while contributing to poverty alleviation and the conservation of the country’s valuable and threatened forests.
WWF Engages with Business Leaders to Support Responsible Forestry
The Global Forest & Trade Network-North America (GFTN-NA) hosted its second annual meeting for companies in its program that have made commitments to responsible forest management and trade, as well as other businesses interested in responsible purchasing. The meeting provided a unique forum in which attendees had access to information, tools, resources, peers and industry experts to help North American wood and paper purchasers in their environmental commitments supporting a more sustainable global forest products industry.
Kimberly-Clark and WWF Work Together to Conserve the World's Forests
Washington, DC and Dallas, TX – Kimberly-Clark Corporation, one of the world’s largest producers of tissue products, has joined WWF’s Global Forest & Trade Network and committed to increase its use of wood fiber from sustainable sources to help protect the world’s forests. Protecting the world’s forests is critical to addressing climate change as deforestation accounts for nearly 20 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
HP Joins WWF’s Global Forest and Trade Network
WASHINGTON, DC, and PALO ALTO, Calif. – HP today announced it has joined the Global Forest & Trade Network in North America (GFTN-NA), a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) initiative linking more than 300 companies globally that share a commitment to responsible forestry. By becoming a member of the GFTN, HP has committed to progressively increase the amount of responsibly harvested fiber used in its paper products and sold globally.

Unsustainable Logging Threatens Great Ape Populations
All species of great apes are (critically) endangered, and their continued existence depends on the conservation of the tropical rainforests. Recognizing that the majority of great apes live outside of formal protected areas, where logging is the most common land use, a new WWF report 'Great Apes and Logging' compares the consequences of different types of logging for a variety of species in general, and for great apes in particular.
