GFTN Head George White Moves On, but Leaves a Legacy
Effective December 31, 2013, George White will be stepping down from his position as the Head of the Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN), after four years of commendable leadership and success. GFTN continues to be one of WWF’s most successful and well known global programmes which has engaged the forest sector for over two decades.
In addition to his four years as GFTN Head, George also made valuable contributions for six years as technical lead for GFTN on responsible trade in forest products, and was one WWF’s earliest private sector recruits with hands-on experience in responsible sourcing. As such, George brought tremendous practical knowledge and experience and co-wrote the first version of the responsible purchasing guide with its ground breaking "stepwise approach" to cleaning up supply chains.
WWF will certainly miss George's dedication to GFTN and his passionate belief in responsible forestry and the products that come from it. This passion and commitment will continue to drive the efforts of the GFTN team moving forward, with leadership provided by Rod Taylor, Director of the WWF International Forest Programme, and Hisayo Fujikawa-Harlan, GFTN Operations Director.
WWF is working toward opening recruitment for a new position as Head of the "Forest Sector Transformation Programme" which will incorporate leadership of GFTN. Further details of this position and new programme will be announced in early 2014.
