International Tropical Timber Agreement Not Enough to Protect Forests
From the European Parliament: The House welcomes the conclusion of the 2006 ITTA (International Tropical Timber Agreement) but considers that the outcome falls well short of what is required to address the loss of tropical forest. MEPs therefore call on the Commission and Member States to increase the financial resources available for the conservation and ecologically responsible use of tropical forests and to promote economically viable alternatives to destructive logging, mining and agricultural practices. » Read more

KPKKT and B.K.B. Hevea Join GFTN-Malaysia
Kumpulan Pengurusan Kayu Kayan Terengganu (KPKKT) and B.K.B Hevea Products Sdn. Bhd joined the Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN) in Malaysia, WWF’s initiative to save the world’s most valuable and threatened forests. KPKKT is the first forest participant in Peninsular Malaysia. B.K.B Hevea is GFTN-Malaysia’s tenth trade participant. » Read more

The Global Forest & Trade Network Workshop in Lao PDR
Vientiane Capital – With Lao PDR’s forestry sector booming in the midst of unprecedented national and regional economic development the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is facilitating the first Global Forest and Trade Network-Laos (GFTN-Laos) workshop tomorrow, Tuesday September 16th, at Lao Plaza.
