There are four basic steps that Applicants must take together with the GFTN-Malaysia in order to become Participants and enjoy the benefits of the GFTN-Malaysia:
Commitment to Responsible Forest Management
Forest managers need to document their commitment to achieve certification within a credible forest certification scheme (e.g. the FSC) in a defined time frame. They should have procurement policies that exclude timber from illegal or unknown sources and show that all products will be sourced from areas under secure tenure with a maximum period of five years.
An Action Plan
An action plan with targets is needed to achieve responsible forest management and/or ensure that all forest products are legally sourced from areas under secure tenure.
Regular Reports and Audits
Submission of progress reports and audits regularly.
Communication Code of Practice
Members must follow the GFTN Communications Code of Practice.
