Malaysian garden furniture manufacturer joins Global Forest and Trade Network
The GFTN is a WWF initiative that aims to provide local companies committed to responsible forestry access to responsible markets, as a means towards responsible purchasing and forest certification. Inspiration Furniture Sdn Bhd is the first company to join the Malaysian chapter.
Inspiration Furniture Sdn Bhd is a major garden furniture manufacturer and their products can be found in the UK and Europe. IFSB is committed to support sustainable forest management, and with the signing of the MoU, will demonstrate their commitment through increasing the purchase of materials from forests moving towards environmentally and socially sustainable standards.
WWF-Malaysia Chairman Tengku Datuk Dr Zainal Adlin congratulated Inspiration Furniture Sdn Bhd on joining the Kumpulan Khazanah Hijau. "This is an important step in the development of a producer group promoting partnerships between responsible forests, manufacturers and purchasers of timber and wooden products. It potentially provides links with over 500 companies around the world that are committed to trading wood responsibly," he said.
International buyers such as Homebase, a major retailer of timber products in the United Kingdom, are active members of the GFTN committed to support suppliers in eliminating illegal timber from the supply chain.
"Homebase are delighted that the hard work completed by Inspiration Furniture Sdn Bhd, following their baseline appraisal, has now lead the way for the company to become the first member of the WWF Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN) Kumpulan Khazanah Hijau," said Charles Drewe, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager.
Homebase hopes that the joining of Inspiration Furniture Sdn Bhd to WWF-Malaysia’s KKH will be the start of a strong and active producer group benefiting from a growing market demand for FSC-certified timber.
