WWF Bolivia, the conservation organization, and its Bolivia Forest Trade Network (FTN) organized, for the second consecutive year, the Business Mission for Forestry Products aimed at companies that are part of WWF’s Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN) and are interested in establishing trade relations with companies that are participating in the Bolivia FTN, certified Bolivian producers or those in process of certification.

The Business Mission run from March 24th to 28th, during the 2008 ExpoForest (International Forest, Wood and Technology Fair) in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, which run from March 26th to 29th, 2008 (www.cfb.org.bo/CFBFerias).

The objective of the Business Mission was to show the 32 visiting foreign business men and women the potential supply from the Bolivian companies, participants of the FTN, facilitating market links between supply and demand for certified wood or in process of certification, and thus ensuring the conservation of forests.

In coordination with the Chamber of Exporters of Northeastern Beni and Pando (Cadexnor), the Bolivia FTN planned technical visits to the production forests located in the northern part of Bolivia, Riberalta, as well as industrial companies in the cities of La Paz and Cochabamba.

Last year, during the same event, Bolivia brought together a dozen participants from Europe and Asia; this year, this Mission has brought 32 business men and women from Guatemala, Argentina, Spain, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal and Sweden, among others. This group was part of the Bolivia FTN Business Mission programme and also participated in the Bolivian Forestry Chamber’s Business Roundtable held on March 27th and 28th, during the ExpoForest.

This event was possible thanks to the generous support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Royal Embassy of the Netherlands.
