Ecological Responsibility Rating Among Forest Enterprises in the Russian Far East

WWF Russia, Amur Branch has carried out an assessment of forest management of timber producers in the Russian Far East for the purpose of further development of sustainable forest management in the Amur Ecoregion.

Goals
• To determine ecologically responsible, socially just and economically stable forest enterprises
• To determine forest enterprises that already obtained international forest certification

Criteria
• Ecological responsibility
• Social justice
• Economic stability

These criteria have been made on the basis of  the “Principles and Criteria” and standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Methods
• Questionnaire (90 questions)
• Field visit
• Analysi the ecological responsibility rating

Results

• 43 companies took part in the survey (7,5 million ha or about 50 % of forests in lease)
• 56 companies did not agree to take part in the survey
• A total of 99 companies
